Kevin Wulf

“composer, multi-instrumentalist, artist, and singer-songwriter responsible for crafting some of the most thought-provoking music of his generation. Ruthlessly studious and audacious without pretension, Wulf has established himself as one of New York’s eminent guitarists, with progressive rock epics such as Plebeian’s Processional (2023) and Dorilton (2022), as well as a member of math rock extraordinaries Wiring. Studying music since childhood and becoming active in the northeast since the late 2010s, his quest for the synthesis of Western music is transcendental of contrivance, a passion so unrelenting that it’s difficult to compare him to contemporary artists, for his idiosyncrasies are instantly recognizable as they are readily classic — creators of pastiche and parody be damned.

When working outside of the progressive music idiom on works like Fenway Soil, Motor Oil (2022) and Pavement, Pots, and Dirt (2023), Kevin Wulf conjures engaging introspection in his sincere, vivid lyrics and provides them with a musical backing that seamlessly marries the grit of Neil Young with the bite of Charles Mingus. Wulf is also focused on other areas of music, studying classical composition at the Purchase Conservatory of Music and Berklee College of Music, with Terry Riley and Philip Glass serving as Wulf’s primary inspirations in the field.

To misunderstand the work and goals of Kevin Wulf is to misunderstand the cultural universal that is music, perhaps the most pure form of expression and communication available to mankind, and to disservice such would serve to only disservice yourself.”
